Cowboy Junkies - Celebrating 40 Years and Beyond
City Winery NYCHudson River Park Esplanade, New York 10014
Cowboy Junkies bring their Celebrating 40 Years and Beyond show to City Winery NYC. The Toronto-formed quartet features siblings Margo Timmins on vocals, Michael Timmins on guitar and Peter Timmins on drums, alongside bassist Alan Anton, Michael's lifelong friend. Expect the group's characteristically restrained blend of folk, blues, country and rock, shaped around Margo Timmins's “feathery alto.”
The band is best known for 1988's The Trinity Session, an album City Winery describes as “a whisper that cut through the noise” and says has sold more than a million copies. Their version of the Velvet Underground's “Sweet Jane” remains a signature recording. Cowboy Junkies later worked with Ryan Adams, Natalie Merchant and Vic Chesnutt on Trinity Session Revisited. Reviewers have heard “hushed intricacy” in the band's music, while Americana UK described its live effect as “total absorption.” American Songwriter praised the “brooding intensity” of Such Ferocious Beauty, which The Arts Fuse counted among the group's best work.
City Winery at Pier 57 is a restaurant winery with live music on an intimate stage, offering a full evening experience that combines dinner, wine, and live music.
