The World Famous Harlem Gospel Choir - Christmas Eve Show

The World Famous Harlem Gospel Choir brings its Christmas Eve Show to Sony Hall. The available information confirms the holiday appearance but does not specify the evening’s repertoire or the exact performers onstage. Expect the choir’s established presentation of contemporary gospel and modern gospel classics associated with Harlem’s Black churches, delivered by singers and musicians rather than a billed individual lineup.

Founded in Harlem in 1986 by Allen Bailey, the choir grew from the neighborhood’s church tradition, with Bailey aiming to carry that gospel music to audiences beyond New York. Its sound combines contemporary gospel with touches of jazz and blues, described by the group as “power vocals, glorious sound and infectious energy.” The choir has shared stages with Bono, Diana Ross, Gorillaz, Pharrell Williams, Damon Albarn and Sam Smith, and has recorded with Keith Richards, the Chieftains and Trace Adkins. It has also appeared at the Grammy Awards, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and NBC’s Christmas at Rockefeller Center. One review praised its “rich harmonies and upbeat rhythms,” strong support for soloists and “sky-high” energy, while finding some unison passages less compelling.
