Greg Humphreys & Friends continues Humphreys' first-Wednesday-of-the-month residency at 11th St Bar. The billed project is his ongoing, changing New York group rather than a fixed lineup, so the specific musicians joining the singer, songwriter and guitarist on this date have not been announced. Expect a set led by a musician whose work has ranged from band projects to his own songwriting.
A North Carolina native who moved to New York City in 2013, Humphreys has spent 30 years as a bandleader, guitarist, songwriter and singer. He fronted the North Carolina bands Dillon Fence and Hobex, led the NYC-based Electric Trio, and has toured throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. His songs have appeared in Outer Banks and the film Rounders, while his recordings include releases on Atlantic Records, London Records and his own Phrex Records. The Winston-Salem Journal's Eddie Huffman praised Humphreys' "distinctive soulful rasp," "tight, imaginative guitar work," and "melodic, catchy, deceptively simple tunes."
A basement club in the East Village, 11th St Bar is a steady fixture for live music, hosting regular house band sets and long-running residencies. The room is a modest space where the audience sits on wooden benches, close enough to hear every note from the front row. Shows typically run from 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM, with multiple sets and a relaxed, conversational atmosphere. The bar is present, offering drinks to accompany the music, and the evening is a night out where people listen, talk, and share in the energy of the performers. It's a place where local musicians play with authenticity and warmth, and the audience is there to experience the music, not just watch it.
