Willie Nile
Joe's Pub425 Lafayette Street, New York 10003
Willie Nile brings a solo retrospective to Joe’s Pub, drawing songs from across his career. He will play piano and guitar, presenting the material without a full band for a career-spanning evening shaped around his songwriting.
Buffalo-born and a longtime New York City resident, Nile is a singer-songwriter whose work has been described through rock ’n’ roll, folk-rock and punk-tinged rock. The New York Times called him “one of the most gifted singer-songwriters to emerge from the New York scene in years,” while Uncut dubbed him “the unofficial poet laureate of New York City” and “A one-man Clash.” He has toured across the United States with The Who, shared stages with The Roches and Barenaked Ladies, and sung with Bruce Springsteen and Ringo Starr. The Associated Press found his album New York At Night “as sharp and guitar-driven as ever” and “anthemic”; DownBeat called it a “sonic love letter to Gotham.”
The stage is set in a converted library space with a striped bar and photos of legends like Leonard Cohen and Amy Winehouse lining the walls. You'll find yourself seated on velvet couches or at candle-lit tables, close enough to hear every note from the back. The sound, engineered by technicians who've worked with John Legend and The Notorious B.I.G., is consistently ranked among the best in New York. Three shows a day, dinner and drinks served throughout, and a menu ranging from Italian small plates to craft cocktails; it's a place where music and conversation flow together, and where both rising stars and legends have made their U.S. debuts.
