Who’s Live Today?

The War And Treaty

Blue Note131 West 3rd Street, New York 10012

The War And Treaty bring their husband-and-wife singing duo to Blue Note for the late set on November 29. This New York date was rescheduled from their November 17 show at Sony Hall, with previously purchased tickets honored. Expect Michael and Tanya Trotter’s voices at the heart of a set that draws together Southern soul, gospel, country, rock-and-roll and Americana.

Initially based in Albion, Michigan, and now based in Nashville, The War And Treaty have built a reputation for high-energy performances, powerhouse vocals and songs that move across genre lines. Their live shows have been described as “nearly revival-like in intensity.” The pair have worked with Zach Bryan on “Hey Driver,” as well as Emmylou Harris, Jason Isbell, Jerry Douglas and Chris Eldridge; more recent collaborators include Whoopi Goldberg, Valerie June and Wynonna Judd. The Tennessean called them “unlike any other act in music,” while the Associated Press hailed “the colossally talented pair” on a “commando, no-limits journey.” Folk Alley wrote that their album Hearts Town brims with “unbridled passion and torrid energy.”

Blue Note Jazz Club is a dedicated listening room in the heart of Manhattan's jazz district, where the music is the focus and the space is designed to let the sound fill the room. The club features a stage with a small audience area, and the atmosphere is one of quiet concentration on the music. Shows typically begin at 8:00 PM with a second set at 10:30 PM, and the audience sits on chairs close to the stage. The club has a bar, and drinks are available. The experience is primarily about listening to live jazz, with occasional gospel and soul performances, and the audience often stays to talk and enjoy the music after the sets.
