Julian Lee Quartet, Mar Vilaseca
Dizzy's Club102 Columbus Circle, New York 10107
Julian Lee’s quartet is joined by vocalist Mar Vilaseca for Bossa Swings, a centennial tribute to Antônio Carlos Jobim and Stan Getz. The program brings Brazilian bossa nova together with modern-jazz swing, with Lee on tenor saxophone, Vilaseca singing, Caelen Cardello on piano, Russell Hall on bass, and Matt Lee on drums. Expect Jobim and Getz repertoire approached through lush melodies, rhythmic lift, and the give-and-take of a small jazz group.
Lee is a Juilliard graduate, a regular member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and a 2017 Jazz at Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award recipient. Active in New York’s jazz scene, he has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride, Herlin Riley, Jon Batiste, and the Mingus Big Band; a venue biography calls him “one of the most exciting and versatile saxophonists of his generation.” Vilaseca, born in Barcelona and now pursuing her career in the United States, is a vocalist, pianist, and composer whose work has included collaborations with Emmet Cohen and Jeremy Pelt. Jazz at Lincoln Center describes her as bringing “the soul of Brazilian music to life.”
Dizzy's Club offers a refined jazz experience with a seating capacity of about 140, where guests enjoy live performances from world-class musicians in a room that frames sweeping views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.
