Knickerbocker Bar & Grill33 University Place, New York 10003

Colin Heshmat plays piano for the November 20 Weekend Jazz set, joined by a bassist to be announced.

The New York-based pianist and composer draws on the straight-ahead jazz tradition. Raised in Springfield, Illinois, he moved to New York in 2019. His quartet album Elastic Groove pairs original compositions with standards in a post-bop setting; Paris-Move called it “joyous, supple, beautifully balanced,” while Jazz Journal described Heshmat as “a crisp but lively performer.”

The Knickerbocker Bar & Grill offers a classic New York experience where traditional American cuisine meets live jazz in a setting that feels like a neighborhood staple. The room is a straightforward dining space with a bar, where the music flows from 9 to 11 p.m. on weekends, accompanied by a modest $3.50 music charge starting shortly after the set begins. The focus is on the music and the meal, with a lineup of accomplished pianists and bassists creating a soundtrack that complements the hearty steaks and familiar dishes. The audience is there to enjoy the performance while savoring their dinner or drinks, making for an evening that balances attentive listening with relaxed socializing. This venue remains a reliable spot for those who appreciate jazz paired with a solid meal in Manhattan.
