Two Miles A Day w/Hery Paz, Jacob Sacks, Eivind Opsvik, Connor Parks

Bar Bayeux1066 Nostrand Ave, New York 11225

Two Miles A Day brings its collaborative jazz project to Bar Bayeux with Hery Paz, Jacob Sacks, Eivind Opsvik and Connor Parks. Led by Sacks and Opsvik, the group works from compositions that move between swinging tunes and free abstraction, with the playful, creative spirit central to the project. This is a four-musician edition of Two Miles A Day, with Paz joining the billed lineup alongside the project’s two leaders and Parks.

New York-based pianist Jacob Sacks and bassist Eivind Opsvik launched Two Miles A Day when they invited drummer Paul Motian to record with them, adding violist Mat Maneri for the 2007 album Two Miles A Day. That record has been called an “underground classic,” and the collaborators later made a second album with Maneri and drummer Billy Mintz. Sacks and Opsvik also performed with Motian in multiple settings and played weekends at Cornelia Street Cafe. Time Out described the band’s music as “sly, introspective and subtly experimental.” Writing about the later record, Bandcamp called the ensemble a “nimble quartet,” noting Opsvik’s career-long habit of “pushing against jazz traditions” while finding value in embracing them “to some degree.”

Bar Bayeux offers a refined setting where live jazz takes precedence, featuring a narrow room with dark red walls and lush curtains that frame a small performance area near the bar. The seating is a mix of tables, chairs, and bar stools arranged closely, allowing the audience to be near the musicians and fully immersed in the sound. The venue serves artisanal cocktails, natural wine, and craft beer, complemented by a backyard garden space for a relaxed interlude. Shows typically run in multiple sets without a cover charge, encouraging attentive listening with a respectful crowd that values the music over chatter. The evening unfolds with a focus on modern jazz, often featuring both established artists and emerging talents, making it a dedicated spot for serious jazz enthusiasts in Brooklyn’s Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood.
