Who’s Live Today?

Seoyeon Im Quartet

Zinc Bar82 West 3rd Street, New York 10012

Seoyeon Im brings her quartet to Zinc Bar for a jazz program led by violin. The evening centers on Im’s command of swing and gypsy jazz, with her classical training informing a quartet setting rather than a solo showcase. It is a chance to hear a player whose work moves between the rhythmic lift of swing and the virtuoso language of gypsy jazz in one of her regular New York settings.

Im is an international jazz violinist and a prominent violin influencer in Korea. Her training spans Sungshin Women’s University in South Korea, Berklee College of Music in Boston, and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from Queens College, CUNY. She has made a notable Carnegie Hall debut and has appeared at Zinc Bar and Ornithology Jazz Club in New York, as well as venues and stages in Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Paris, and Canada. The venue describes her as acclaimed for her mastery of swing and gypsy jazz, bringing together classical training and a jazz specialization that has reached audiences internationally.

Zinc Bar offers a richly textured experience where the past and present of jazz converge in a single, dimly lit room adorned with Art Deco details like velvet upholstery, polished brass, and a Parisian zinc bar. The venue’s layout centers around a close-up stage and a vintage bar, creating a setting where the music is both the focus and a shared journey. Patrons can expect expertly crafted cocktails alongside performances that range from world-class jazz to vibrant Brazilian and African rhythms, often featuring multiple sets and occasional late-night jams. The seating is lounge-style, encouraging attentive listening rather than casual chatter, making it a place to immerse fully in the sound. This is a space where history lingers, once hosting legends like Billie Holiday and Thelonious Monk, now continuing their legacy with a sophisticated yet welcoming vibe.
