Glenn Crytzer @ Festival Cafe
Festival CafeEast 61st Street, New York 10062
Glenn Crytzer brings his quartet to Festival Cafe for an evening of American Songbook classics heard through the Jazz Age and Swing Era. The group works with a rotating lineup, and its instrumentation can vary by format, so the musicians joining Crytzer for this Manhattan date have not been confirmed. Expect a small-group set shaped by period repertoire and the rhythmic drive of early swing.
New York City-based bandleader, guitarist, songwriter, arranger, banjoist and vocalist Crytzer is known for recordings and performances that pursue a period-authentic sound. His orchestra won Best Group in New York at the 2017 NYC Jazz Awards, while his original music and classic covers have earned more than 100 television and film placements, including work for Disney, Marvel, Hulu and Netflix. His groups have played Lincoln Center, the Rainbow Room and the USS Intrepid. Writing in Jazz Lives, Michael Steinman said one track could pass for “an unissued 1930 Champion”; Rolling Stone's Connor Ratliff called the music “like it could have been recorded 75 years ago. Solid and Delightful.”
