Pete Malinverni Quartet
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Pete Malinverni leads a quartet at The Django for a late-night set. The personnel have not been announced, but the billed format puts the pianist at the head of a four-piece group. It is a chance to hear a musician long associated with New York jazz in the cellar-level room at the Roxy Hotel, where live performances are presented nightly.
Originally from Niagara Falls, New York, Malinverni moved to New York City in the early 1980s and has been a fixture of its jazz scene since. He has recorded 16 albums as a leader, work that has received critical and public acclaim and found airplay from terrestrial radio to streaming platforms. Across his career, he has worked with Joe Lovano, Vernel Fournier, Charles Davis, Mel Lewis, Dennis Irwin, Karrin Allyson, Steve Wilson and others. Alongside performing and recording, Malinverni is Chair of Jazz Studies at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, State University of New York.
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
