Diego Hedez Quartet
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Diego Hedez brings his quartet to The Django for a set rooted in contemporary jazz and improvised music. The Cuban-born, New York-based trumpeter and flugelhorn player is joined by pianist Manuel Valera, bassist Raul Reyes and drummer Angel Luis Ruiz. It is a four-piece meeting that places Hedez's brass writing and improvising alongside piano, bass and drums, with the venue presenting him as a musician of dynamic range in contemporary jazz.
Hedez has worked with figures including William Parker, David Virelles, Francisco Mela and Daniel Carter, and has appeared at venues and festivals such as the Kennedy Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Roulette Intermedium, Porgy & Bess, BRIC Festival and The Jazz Showcase. His recent work includes The Latin Jazz Quintet, collaborations with Matthieu Mazué, and Turn of Events, a 577 Records release featuring drummer Francisco Mela. Across these projects, the through line is a commitment to "free improvisation and sonic exploration," connecting his Cuban roots with a New York practice shaped by collaboration and open-ended musical conversation.
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
