TATIANNA OVERTON - Miki Yamanaka - Tyrone Allen II - Kayvon Gordon

Close Up154 Orchard St, New York 10002

Tatianna Overton leads a vocal quartet at Close Up, joined by Miki Yamanaka on piano, Tyrone Allen II on bass, and Kayvon Gordon on drums. The program is presented across two sets, with Overton bringing traditional songbook material and newer repertoire into a setting shaped by jazz improvisation, composition, and her live-looping practice.

New York-born and based, Overton works across sacred, jazz, classical, and contemporary performance traditions. Her background includes more than fifteen years of classical training, including study at the Aaron Copland School of Music, alongside work as a cantor and choral section leader. She has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, The Apollo, David Geffen Hall, and Kings Theatre. Her project, .tatio, uses live looping to explore rhythmically complex, spiritually rooted material; that exploration feeds a vocal approach informed by traditional hymns, standards, experimental music, and the jazz tradition.

Close Up offers a focused jazz experience in a sleek, minimalist space on Manhattan's Lower East Side, where the sound system and acoustics bring every note into sharp relief. The venue features a small back room that invites close connection with the performers, creating a setting where music is the main event and distractions are minimal. Shows run six nights a week with multiple sets, encouraging a deep dive into the music rather than a casual night out. A bar serves Latin American-inspired bites and cocktails, complementing the listening experience without overwhelming it. The crowd tends to be attentive, drawn by the artist-driven programming that blends classic jazz traditions with fresh, innovative sounds. This is a place to settle in, listen closely, and savor the evolving jazz scene in a refined yet approachable environment.
