THE LUNAR FRONTIER: Cowboy Bebop x Eternal Wind

The Red Pavilion256 Ingraham Street, New York 11237

The Lunar Frontier brings Owen Chen's Eternal Wind Quintet to The Red Pavilion for a Cowboy Bebop focused program. The quintet follows jazz's route from New Orleans to Tokyo and back, playing Yoko Kanno's score for the cult classic alongside the hard bop and blues repertoire that informed it: music associated with Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, and Duke Ellington. It is a cinematic jazz set built around the show's jazz-noir universe and its meeting of anime soundtrack writing with jazz history.

Led by guitarist Owen Chen, Eternal Wind is a cinematic jazz quintet that interprets film and game music through modern jazz improvisation and atmospheric storytelling. Its approach draws on bebop, post-bop, and contemporary jazz to reshape familiar themes. The ensemble includes musicians from the jazz programs at New York University, Juilliard School, and Manhattan School of Music. BroadwayWorld called Eternal Wind “tender, aching, dark, and explosively alive.” The group is signed to Origin Records, with its debut album due in March 2026.

The Red Pavilion offers a striking blend of Asian neo-noir aesthetics and live jazz performances that create a captivating evening. The venue’s interior channels a 1960s Hong Kong vibe with red lanterns, velvet curtains, and smoky lighting that envelop the room in a cinematic glow. Guests can expect a dynamic program featuring jazz, cabaret, aerial performances, and culturally rich events that honor AAPI heritage. The space functions as a teahouse by day and transforms into a sultry nightclub with a full bar serving inventive Asian herbal cocktails by night. Shows often include multiple sets and sometimes late-night DJ sessions, encouraging both attentive listening and socializing. The Red Pavilion’s intimate stage brings performers close to the audience, making every note and movement feel immediate and immersive.
