Who’s Live Today?

Kieran Brown Quartet

Zinc Bar82 West 3rd Street, New York 10012

Kieran Brown brings her quartet to Zinc Bar for an evening built around her work as a vocalist, composer, and arranger. Brown’s repertoire draws on jazz, R&B, and the American Songbook, with improvisation and songwriting central to her approach. The bill presents two performances, giving the quartet room to frame her voice in a setting designed for close listening.

Based in New York City since 2023, Brown developed her love of jazz after attending Berklee College of Music’s summer program on a full-tuition scholarship in 2016. She is a graduate of Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where her teachers included Sachal Vasandani, Darmon Meader, Lee Musiker, John Raymond, Dave Stryker, Greg Ward, Oliver Nelson Jr., and Todd Coolman. She was a featured vocalist with IU Soul Revue and sang with the Grammy Award-winning Singing Hoosiers. In New York, she has performed with Konrad Paszkudski, Mike Karn, Emmet Cohen, and Joe Farnsworth, and regularly appears at Dizzy’s Club, Birdland, Aman, The Django, Chelsea Table + Stage, Mezzrow, and the Green Room 42. Her stated influences range from Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan to Stevie Wonder, Debussy, and Chopin.

Zinc Bar offers a richly textured experience where the past and present of jazz converge in a single, dimly lit room adorned with Art Deco details like velvet upholstery, polished brass, and a Parisian zinc bar. The venue’s layout centers around a close-up stage and a vintage bar, creating a setting where the music is both the focus and a shared journey. Patrons can expect expertly crafted cocktails alongside performances that range from world-class jazz to vibrant Brazilian and African rhythms, often featuring multiple sets and occasional late-night jams. The seating is lounge-style, encouraging attentive listening rather than casual chatter, making it a place to immerse fully in the sound. This is a space where history lingers, once hosting legends like Billie Holiday and Thelonious Monk, now continuing their legacy with a sophisticated yet welcoming vibe.
