ARTEMIS comes to The Pocket as a five-piece ensemble: founder Renee Rosnes on piano, Ingrid Jensen on trumpet, Nicole Glover on tenor saxophone, Noriko Ueda on bass, and Allison Miller on drums. Founded in 2017 and named for the Greek goddess, the group brings together musicians who are each established bandleaders in their own right. Their third Blue Note release, Arboresque, pairs original compositions by all five members with new arrangements of classic material.
A multinational, multigenerational jazz group, ARTEMIS has built a profile through major festival and venue appearances around the world, including a May 2025 NPR Tiny Desk Concert. NPR called them “a killer line-up of players, composers and performers” with an “extremely cosmopolitan, sleek, rhythm-forward, modern sound.” The Guardian, which included Arboresque among its Top Ten Jazz Albums of 2025, praised the record’s “cliché-free individuality and congenial collective spirit radiantly combined.” ARTEMIS was voted Jazz Group of the Year in DownBeat’s readers poll from 2023 through 2025, and the Jazz Journalists Association named it Mid-Size Ensemble of the Year in 2024 and 2025.
The Pocket offers a close-up encounter with world-class jazz musicians in a small, focused setting where every note feels immediate and unfiltered. The room is designed to bring listeners near the performers, creating a direct connection that makes the music feel personal and vivid. Seating is limited and arranged to emphasize attentive listening rather than casual socializing, with a bar available to complement the experience. Shows are ticketed, encouraging an audience that is there to fully engage with the performance. The venue’s location in Manhattan places it within easy reach of the city’s vibrant cultural pulse, making it a perfect spot for an evening dedicated to serious jazz appreciation without distractions.
