Willerm Delisfort Trio

Zinc Bar82 West 3rd Street, New York 10012

Willerm Delisfort brings his trio to Zinc Bar for an evening led by the New York based pianist, composer and educator. The billed trio format puts Delisfort’s writing and piano work at the forefront, drawing from the musical continuum he describes as encompassing jazz, gospel and R&B. The venue has scheduled two sets, with seating available throughout the performances.

Born in Little Haiti, Miami, Delisfort began playing piano at ten, studied with South Florida musicians including John McMinn and Melton Mustafa, and founded the Willerm Delisfort Project while at Florida A&M University. He later studied in the Chicago area with Willie Pickens and Ronald Carter, working with Von and George Freeman, Ernest Dawkins, Fareed Haque, Bobby Broom, Marquis Hill, Makaya McCraven and Junius Paul before moving to New York. As a leader, he has released Freedom Riders in 2009 and Black Element(s) in 2023, while appearing as a sideman on recordings by artists including Wayne Tucker, Dezron Douglas, Ernest Dawkins, Milton Suggs and Jason Marshall. His work as an educator includes teaching at The New School and programs at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

Zinc Bar offers a richly textured experience where the past and present of jazz converge in a single, dimly lit room adorned with Art Deco details like velvet upholstery, polished brass, and a Parisian zinc bar. The venue’s layout centers around a close-up stage and a vintage bar, creating a setting where the music is both the focus and a shared journey. Patrons can expect expertly crafted cocktails alongside performances that range from world-class jazz to vibrant Brazilian and African rhythms, often featuring multiple sets and occasional late-night jams. The seating is lounge-style, encouraging attentive listening rather than casual chatter, making it a place to immerse fully in the sound. This is a space where history lingers, once hosting legends like Billie Holiday and Thelonious Monk, now continuing their legacy with a sophisticated yet welcoming vibe.
