National Sawdust presents Kyle Sanna: Everything Again Is New (Live Coding with Ensemble)

Kyle Sanna presents the full premiere of Everything Again Is New, a live-coded set of algorithmic compositions for electronics and ensemble. Playing guitar and electronics, Sanna is joined by Kinan Azmeh on clarinet and bass clarinet, Lily Holgate on violin, and Nathan Koci on accordion. The work reanimates recorded fragments of Sanna’s own chamber-orchestra music through code, while projections make its generative process visible as text becomes sound. Built around cyclical regeneration and renewal, the pieces let musical cells divide and proliferate, melodic phrases fracture and recombine, and silence arrive unexpectedly.
Brooklyn-based guitarist and composer Sanna works across contemporary composition, jazz and improvisation, traditional Irish music, and music technology and production. His music ranges from solo guitar and chamber works to algorithmic electronica and improvisations. He has collaborated with and arranged for artists including Kinan Azmeh, Martin Hayes, Seamus Egan, Maeve Gilchrist, Dana Lyn, Ground Patrol, Yo-Yo Ma, and Béla Fleck. The New Yorker has called him a “first-rate, versatile musician,” an apt description for an artist bringing composition, performance, and live coding into the same frame.
