Bill Charlap Quartet

Birdland315 West 44th Street, New York 10036

Bill Charlap brings his quartet to Birdland for a piano-led set with Nicole Glover on tenor sax, David Wong on bass and Carl Allen on drums. The group is part of Charlap’s January 5 through 9 engagement at the club, and this performance places the pianist’s quartet sound in Birdland’s focused listening room.

Born in New York City, Charlap began playing piano at three and went on to become a Grammy Award-winning pianist. He has performed with leading artists including Phil Woods, Tony Bennett, Gerry Mulligan, Wynton Marsalis, Freddy Cole and Houston Person. His Broadway connection runs deep: his father, Moose Charlap, composed for Peter Pan, while his mother, singer Sandy Stewart, toured with Benny Goodman and appeared regularly on the Perry Como show. In 2005, Charlap and Stewart released the acclaimed Blue Note album Love Is Here To Stay.
