Eric Alexander brings his new all-star quartet to Smoke Jazz Club for the release of Fifth Quadrant, his first album as a leader for Smoke Sessions and the ensemble’s first recording. Alexander plays tenor saxophone, joined by Cyrus Chestnut on piano, Nat Reeves on bass, and Carl Allen on drums. The program draws on Alexander’s new compositions and modern classics, with the group’s shared commitment to melody and swing at its core. This is a dinner show.
New York-based tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander emerged in Chicago in the early 1990s and has been a leading modern-jazz voice ever since. His playing joins a powerful sound and deep bebop command to highly expressive improvising. He has performed and recorded with Pat Martino, Horace Silver, McCoy Tyner, George Coleman, and Freddie Cole, and is a member of the cooperative sextet One for All. All Music Guide calls him “one of the giants of the tenor sax,” while All About Jazz describes him as “one of the more emotive and resourceful improvisers on the scene.” NPR has hailed Alexander as “one of the finest bebop saxophonists in the world.”
