Lacy Rose: Visions - A Meditation on the Female Muses of Gustav Klimt presented in partnership with PROTOTYPE

Lacy Rose brings Visions: A Meditation on the Female Muses of Gustav Klimt to Joe’s Pub in partnership with PROTOTYPE. Rose performs the work with the Starling Ensemble, in a setting for voice, piano, and string quartet. The evening centers on Klimt’s female muses, with Rose’s lyric poetry and classically grounded vocal writing shaping a composed work that moves between songs, text, and instrumental accompaniment.
Rose is a lyric poet, vocalist, and composer of contemporary art songs. Her work has been described as imagistic storytelling that “blurs the lines between song cycle, surrealism, and incantation.” Visions continues her engagement with Klimt’s subjects: her earlier EP Mizzi explored the “inner life and personhood” of the painter’s muse Maria Zimmermann. That 2017 presentation included the Osso String Quartet, pianist John Albert Harris, guitarist Colin Fullerton, vocalist Alaina Ferris, and Rose herself. The available material identifies Rose as the composer and performer behind this project, while leaving her hometown and a fixed Starling Ensemble lineup unstated.
The stage is set in a converted library space with a striped bar and photos of legends like Leonard Cohen and Amy Winehouse lining the walls. You'll find yourself seated on velvet couches or at candle-lit tables, close enough to hear every note from the back. The sound, engineered by technicians who've worked with John Legend and The Notorious B.I.G., is consistently ranked among the best in New York. Three shows a day, dinner and drinks served throughout, and a menu ranging from Italian small plates to craft cocktails; it's a place where music and conversation flow together, and where both rising stars and legends have made their U.S. debuts.
