Jason Marsalis Presents the Rare Works of Ellis Marsalis

Dizzy's Club102 Columbus Circle, New York 10107

Jason Marsalis brings a quartet to Dizzy’s Club for Jason Marsalis Presents the Rare Works of Ellis Marsalis, a program celebrating the music of his father, Ellis Marsalis. The set also reaches into compositions by New Orleans modern-jazz figures James Black, Alvin Batiste, and Harold Battiste. The quartet’s personnel have not been announced, but the focus is clear: a family legacy heard alongside the work of Ellis Marsalis’s peers and fellow musical thinkers.

A New Orleans musician known as both a drummer and vibraphonist, Jason Marsalis has worked with Marcus Roberts, Los Hombres Calientes, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Joe Henderson, and Lionel Hampton. He co-founded Los Hombres Calientes with Irvin Mayfield and Bill Summers, and his album Melody Reimagined, with the 21st Century Trad Band, reached the top of Billboard’s jazz chart. All About Jazz has praised Marsalis for “technical virtuosity, innate rhythmic aplomb and compositional ingenuity.” Writing about his drumming, Marsalis Music called his solo on “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top” “dramatic,” with “virtuosity … at the service of musical content.”

Dizzy's Club offers a refined jazz experience with a seating capacity of about 140, where guests enjoy live performances from world-class musicians in a room that frames sweeping views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. The venue features a full bar and a seasonal menu with sophisticated soul food, enhancing the evening beyond just the music. Shows are ticketed and typically run two sets per night, with late-night sessions available without reservation. The seating is generally first-come, first-served, encouraging early arrival for the best vantage points. The club’s location within Jazz at Lincoln Center places it in a lively cultural hub, making it ideal for a night that blends attentive listening with the pleasure of fine dining and cityscape views.
