Benny Benack

Benny Benack, identified in the venue’s earlier listings as Benny Benack III, is the billed performer at Baretto at Fasano. No accompanying musicians, guest artists, or particular set concept are named for this date, so the billed appearance is the focus of the evening. The performance takes place in Baretto’s Midtown room above Fasano Restaurant, where live music is presented alongside Northern Italian food and cocktails.

Originally from Pittsburgh and now based in New York, Benack is a trumpeter, vocalist and pianist whose repertoire includes jazz standards, original songs and vocalese, setting words to improvised jazz solos. He has worked with Postmodern Jukebox and the Grammy-winning 8-Bit Big Band, and his vocalese duet with Veronica Swift, “Social Call,” was described by the Conrad as an “instant smash hit single.” His collaborators include Christian McBride, Ulysses Owens Jr., Ann Hampton Callaway, Emmet Cohen, Peter Bernstein and Bria Skonberg. Jazz Aspen Snowmass calls him a “rare double-threat,” pairing a “fiery trumpeter” with “expressive, post-Sinatra phrasing”; the Pittsburgh Symphony praises his “superb technique and musicality.”
