The Klezmatics
Sony Hall235 West 46th Street, New York 10036
The Klezmatics mark the anniversary of Wonder Wheel with Susan McKeown and Boo Reiners. The album drew on Woody Guthrie’s archive, setting previously unrecorded lyrics to music.
Formed in Manhattan’s East Village in 1986, the Klezmatics are klezmer revival pioneers whose sound blends “Yiddish soul with punk, gospel, jazz, and folk,” alongside Latin, avant-jazz and other global-roots influences. NPR says they have “resided at the genre’s forefront while pushing it in new and innovative directions.”
