Who’s Live Today?

Jason Marshall Quartet

The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013

Jason Marshall brings his quartet to The Django for a late-night set built around his baritone saxophone work and his grounding in the bebop tradition. The billing names the group as a quartet, with no individual sidemen announced, and the performance follows Marshall’s long-running work as a bandleader alongside his activity across New York’s jazz scene.

Based in New York City since 2003, Marshall is known as a baritone saxophonist whose musical curiosity has taken him through multiple styles and reed instruments. His composing, arranging, and playing draw on the joy and depth of Black American Music. Since the early 2000s, he has led his own ensembles and performed with the Roy Hargrove Big Band, RH Factor, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations, and Chaka Khan, as well as established New York players. He has released several projects as a leader, including 2020’s Joy Unspeakable; New Beginnings was his first release for the Cellar Live label.

The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
