Alma Micic Quartet
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Alma Micic brings her quartet to The Django for a vocal jazz set, with Brandon McCune on piano, Gili Lopes on bass and Donald Edwards on drums. The Belgrade-born singer leads a working four-piece rather than appearing solo, putting her voice in conversation with piano, bass and drums.
Born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, Micic began performing at 16 with a local quartet during jazz’s comeback in the city. She soon became a featured vocalist with the Radio Belgrade Big Band, touring and appearing at local jazz festivals as well as on television and radio. Since moving to New York City in 2000, she has released four studio albums: Introducing Alma in 2004, Hours in 2008, Tonight in 2013 and That Old Feeling in 2017. Ron Della Chiesa of WGBH Radio called her “a vocalist that personifies what jazz singing is all about,” while All About Jazz described her as “a first rate jazz singer.”
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
