Who’s Live Today?

Marissa Mulder Quartet

The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013

Marissa Mulder brings her quartet to The Django for an evening led by the award-winning singer. The billing identifies the group but does not name its other musicians or specify the repertoire, leaving the focus on Mulder’s voice and her song-centered approach. It is a chance to hear a performer the venue calls a rising star in its cellar-level jazz room.

Originally from Syracuse, New York, Mulder moved to New York City in 2007 and has since earned three MAC Awards as well as the Noël Coward/Julie Wilson Award. She has appeared at Lincoln Center, Town Hall and Carnegie Hall, and is particularly associated with interpretations of Tom Waits and Lennon, McCartney material. The Django hears in her singing the knowing yet girlish sound of Blossom Dearie, the ethereal pop of Eva Cassidy and the gentle sensuality of Marilyn Monroe. In The New York Times, Stephen Holden wrote that she sang “as if the songs were torn from inside her” and called the result “everything the genre can be but almost never is.”

The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
