Goatroper marks the release of its second album, All Night, at Jalopy Theatre, joined by Ghost Rodeo and Sam Brown. The new record was recorded at Metropolitan Sounds in Williamsburg and gathers ten songs inspired by late nights in dive bars. Goatroper is led by Abbey Janii and Mike Lee, while the evening also brings Ghost Rodeo's songs of roads, heartbreak, and ethereal planes, alongside singer-songwriter and Hearts on Fire member Sam Brown.
Goatroper comes from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is described as a duo whose members share songwriting, though the full live-band formation is not specified. Their music draws on folk, country, old-time, and perhaps ragtime, blending “the traditions of American music with the rhythms of a Honky-Tonk night.” Tight harmonies, infectious grooves, catchy melodies, and storytelling are central to the group’s approach. Adventures in Americana praised their “storytelling chops,” calling their debut a “charming introduction to a fun and creative Americana band,” with sentimental writing and “an adorable concoction” of sounds.
Jalopy Theatre offers a unique evening centered on folk and traditional music in a space that feels like a blend of a vintage music hall and a community gathering spot. The venue holds around 100 people, with seating that invites close-up listening, allowing you to catch every nuance of the acoustic performances. The walls reflect its roots in handmade and analog traditions, creating a setting where the music’s authenticity is palpable. Adjacent to the theatre, the Jalopy Tavern serves drinks late into the night, often with live music of its own, extending the experience beyond the main show. Shows are ticketed and often feature multiple sets, fostering a night where the music and the crowd’s focus are intertwined, making it a place to truly immerse yourself in the sounds and stories of roots music.
