Nick Di Maria Quintet
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Trumpeter Nick Di Maria brings his quintet to The Django for a late set. The band pairs Di Maria with Matt Knoegel on tenor saxophone, Miho Sasaki on piano, Conway Campbell on bass, and Jimmy Gavagan on drums. Expect original material spanning straight-ahead jazz and jazz-funk fusion, a program Di Maria has performed with his band around the country since 2006.
Based in New Haven, Connecticut, Di Maria is an award-winning trumpeter and composer, a protégé of Dr. Eddie Henderson, and a fixture of that city’s music scene. Away from the bandstand, he directs the New Haven Jazz Underground, a grassroots organization devoted to producing and preserving jazz in Connecticut. His collaborators include Abraham Burton, Brian Charette, and Peter Bernstein. In 2021, the Hartford Courant selected Di Maria’s album Indigo Seven as one of its Top Twenty albums of the year.
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
