Liam Sutcliffe Quintet
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Trumpeter Liam Sutcliffe brings his quintet to The Django for a late Monday set. The bill identifies a five-piece group, though the other musicians have not been announced. Sutcliffe’s music is rooted in the jazz and bebop tradition while incorporating modern elements, making this a focused small-group outing led by one of the younger players working regularly around the New York area.
A New Jersey native, Sutcliffe performs throughout the Philadelphia and New York metro areas and has appeared at the Kennedy Center, Dizzy’s Club, Birdland, Chris’ Jazz Cafe and South Jazz Kitchen. He was selected for the 2019 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program at the Kennedy Center, won the 2020 United States Army Blues Solo Competition, joined Christian McBride’s JAS Academy Big Band in 2022, and received a New Jersey Jazz Society Scholarship that same year. Chris’ Jazz Cafe says his playing can keep listeners “in a trance.”
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
