Alma Micic Quartet
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Alma Micic brings her quartet to The Django for a late set, with Micic on vocals, Brandon McCune on piano, Gili Lopes on bass and Donald Edwards on drums. The billed four-piece puts Micic's voice at the front of the evening, in a cellar-level Manhattan room built for listening to live jazz. It is a focused vocal-jazz date rather than a special-event program, with no guest artist or tribute announced.
Born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, Micic began performing at 16 with a local quartet during a jazz resurgence in the city. She soon became a featured vocalist with the Radio Belgrade Big Band, touring, appearing at Serbian jazz festivals and making television and radio broadcasts. Since moving to New York City in 2000, she has released four studio albums: Introducing Alma (2004), Hours (2008), Tonight (2013) and That Old Feeling (2017). Ron Della Chiesa of WGBH Radio called her “a vocalist that personifies what jazz singing is all about,” while All About Jazz described her as “a first rate jazz singer.”
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
