Jazz Brunch! with Glenn Crytzer Quartet
Peck Slip Social235 Front Street, New York 10038
Jazz Brunch! brings the Glenn Crytzer Quartet to Peck Slip Social for a Saturday afternoon set. Crytzer identifies the group’s resident brunch configuration as the “Piano” Quartet: guitar, piano, bass, plus a guest horn player or vocalist. The repertoire draws on small-group jazz and American Songbook material from the 1920s through the 1940s, giving the afternoon a focused run through Jazz Age and Swing Era song.
New York City-based bandleader Glenn Crytzer is known for work that aims to bring “the Jazz Age and Swing Era to life with unparalleled authenticity.” His quartet’s Songbook Sessions revisited songs year by year from 1920 to 1944; musicians in its reported roster have included trumpeter Mike Davis, reed player Ricky Alexander, and bassists Ian Hutchison and Andrew Hall. Jazz Journal heard “a strong Dixieland sound,” calling the music “lively and energetic and emotionally charged.” The Syncopated Times described the playing as “exquisite” and called Crytzer “a guitar wonder,” while Jazz Weekly said it was “Swinging as hard as a night at the Roseland Ballroom.”
Peck Slip Social is a basement club tucked into the Seaport District where music takes center stage in a room with a stage, a bar, and a few tables. Shows run from 7 PM to 10 PM, with the audience seated at small tables or standing near the stage. The bar is open for drinks before and after the performance, and the room is intimate enough that you can hear the band clearly from the back. It's a place where people come to listen, talk, and enjoy a night out with friends. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with a mix of genres from jazz to rock. The venue has a history of hosting live music and continues to operate at its original location.
