Jason Tiemann Quintet
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Jason Tiemann brings a five-piece band to The Django for a jazz set led from the drums. Trumpeter Scott Wendholt, tenor saxophonist Tim Armacost, pianist Luis Perdomo and bassist Paul Gill join Tiemann, giving the group a front line of trumpet and tenor over piano, bass and drums. The venue presents the night as a special jazz performance alongside dinner and drinks.
A New York City drummer, Tiemann is described by The Django as one of the city’s most in-demand players. His experience includes work with Benny Golson, Dave Liebman, Harold Mabern and Eric Alexander, among many others. The venue says his trio joins “the mojo of classic jazz groups” to “the daring of today’s young stars on the rise”; this quintet draws on that stated association with straight-ahead swing while bringing together seasoned New York collaborators Wendholt, Armacost, Perdomo and Gill.
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
