ANDERSON BROTHERS: THE AMERICAN SONGBOOK

Birdland315 West 44th Street, New York 10036

Peter and Will Anderson bring The American Songbook to Birdland with their all-star quintet. The identical-twin clarinet and saxophone players will interpret Great American Songbook material drawn from George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers and Harold Arlen, giving the evening a focused tour through that repertoire rather than a general set. It is a chance to hear two front-line reed players shape familiar standards in a small-group setting.

Washington, DC natives and Juilliard graduates, Peter and Will Anderson are Grammy-winning musicians whom The New York Times called “virtuosos on clarinet & saxophone.” They have appeared at the Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, the New Orleans Jazz Festival and Feinstein’s 54 Below, as well as on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. Their credits include the Grammy-winning Boardwalk Empire soundtrack with Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks, and appearances in Revolutionary Road, Killers of the Flower Moon, Boardwalk Empire and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Birdland offers a refined jazz experience in a room where the audience sits at tables close to the stage, allowing every note to reach you clearly. The venue features a full menu with dishes like New Orleans-style gumbo alongside a well-stocked bar, making it easy to enjoy a meal or drinks while listening. Each show is ticketed per set, encouraging focused listening as the music unfolds in roughly 45-minute segments. The club’s walls echo decades of jazz history, having hosted legends and continuing to attract top contemporary artists. Located in Manhattan’s Theater District, the space balances a serious music environment with the energy of a night out, where attentive audiences savor the performances without distraction. Booking ahead is essential, as the club fills quickly for its celebrated lineup.
