SIMON MOULLIER

Simon Moullier

The Jazz Gallery1160 Broadway, New York 10001

Simon Moullier comes to The Jazz Gallery for the December 5 presentation of his 2026 Residency Commission project, following the release of his newest album, Ceiba. The billed information names Moullier alone, so the formation for the evening has not been announced. It is the second of two nights at the Gallery devoted to the commission’s premiere, with the focus on new work from a player described by DownBeat as the “unchallenged new star of jazz vibraphone.”

French-born and based in New York City, Moullier is a vibraphonist, composer and arranger recognized for what the Jazz Gallery calls an “entirely new approach and sound” on his instrument. He has worked with Gerald Clayton, Ben Wendel, Terri Lyne Carrington and Buster Williams, and appears on recordings with Mark Turner, Kendrick Scott and Miguel Zenón. DownBeat hears “finesse on vibraphone” that instills his music with elegance; JazzTimes calls him “a lyrical voice on vibes,” writing that his notes “can resonate sympathetically with the human heart.”

The Jazz Gallery offers a focused listening room experience on the fifth floor of a Midtown office building, where the audience gathers to hear progressive jazz performed by emerging and established artists. The space is designed to highlight the music without distractions: seating is arranged to bring listeners close to the performers, fostering a direct connection with the sound. There is no food service, but a bar is available, and ticket prices are modest, encouraging accessibility. Shows typically run from 7 to 11 pm on select nights, featuring multiple sets that invite deep engagement rather than casual socializing. The venue’s commitment to artistic growth is evident in its support for new compositions and collaborations, making an evening here a chance to witness jazz as a living, evolving art form in a setting that respects both the musicians and the audience.
