Charlie Hunter and Ella Feingold bring their exploratory guitar duo project, Different Strokes for Different Folks, to Blue Note Los Angeles. Their set is built as a fluid improvisational conversation around rhythm, space and groove, tracing the meeting points of funk, minimalism, melody and motion. Hunter calls Feingold “one of the baddest, greasiest guitar players on the planet.”

Both American guitarists, Feingold is based in Western Massachusetts and Hunter in Greensboro, North Carolina. Hunter is known for his custom eight-string guitar work, which lets him combine bass lines, melodies and chords; Feingold’s playing is noted for its deep pocket, harmonic sophistication and technical invention. Her credits include Queen Latifah, Erykah Badu, Bruno Mars/Silk Sonic, The Roots and Jay-Z, while Hunter appeared on D’Angelo’s Voodoo.

A small, dimly lit basement club tucked into a Hollywood corner, Blue Note Los Angeles is a dedicated jazz and live music space with a long-standing reputation for intimate, high-quality performances. The room is modest, with a few rows of seats facing a stage where the music is the focus. It's a place to listen, not to socialize, with the audience often quiet, absorbed in the musicians. Drinks are available, but the atmosphere is centered on the music. Shows are ticketed, with multiple sets each night, and the evening unfolds with a steady rhythm of live music, not casual conversation.
