EARLY SHOW - An Evening with Soulive
Live at The Sun Rose8430 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles 90069
Soulive brings an early evening set to Live at The Sun Rose. Billed simply as An Evening with Soulive, the show is centered on the trio’s instrumental, groove-led approach, with no additional performers, guests, tribute theme or release celebration listed.
Soulive is the jazz-organ trio of brothers Alan Evans on drums and Neal Evans on Hammond B-3 organ, alongside guitarist Eric Krasno. The group grew out of Woodstock, New York, and Blue Note has described them as “essentially Boston-based.” Their sound is “danceable, organ-driven instrumental groove-jazz,” drawing together jazz, soul, funk and hip-hop in improvisational performances built around the pocket. They have toured with and opened for John Scofield, Maceo Parker, Los Lobos, Derek Trucks and Robben Ford; Scofield also appears on their release Doin’ Something. One review says the trio has “mastered their own style of soul-jazz/funk-jazz.”
Standing on the site of the former House of Blues along the Sunset Strip, the venue operates as a plush, 150-capacity listening lounge that puts audiences practically within arm's reach of the performers. Curated under the musical direction of Adam Blackstone, the space pairs pristine acoustics with low-lit velvet banquettes and cocktail tables, striking a balance between a serious listening room and a sophisticated night out. Advance ticket purchases are essential for entry: seating is divided between general standing room and reserved tables offering dedicated cocktail service, alongside dining options available on-site through the venue and hotel property. Late sets frequently draw surprise drop-ins from top-tier musicians, and patrons often linger for drinks after the performance.
