Spazmatics - Pre Turkey Day Celebration
The Spazmatics bring their Pre Turkey Day Celebration to The Canyon in Agoura Hills, with Ghost in the Machine opening the night. The billed show is built around the sounds, styles and dance steps of the 1980s, delivered by a band whose presentation includes skinny ties, Brill Creamed hair and horn-rimmed glasses. Expect an 80s-focused set that leans into the decade's synth-pop imagery as much as its songs, with the group’s choreographed performance part of the premise.
The Spazmatics are presented by their creators as a California-born act, with a comic origin story set at Alta Dena High in Thousand Oaks in 1983. In the tale, physics teacher Kevin Stigwood forms the group after losing a String Theory debate and being challenged to perform Thomas Dolby’s “She Blinded Me With Science” at a basketball championship. Electronics teacher Sidney Baderman, known as Sid Sonic, supplies “robot” drums, while Curtis Stigwood and guitarist Rusty A. Woosmeir complete the lineup. The Canyon describes the result as “authenticity of production, world class musicianship, and tight choreography,” and notes that the act comes from the creators of the Fabulous Boogie Knights.
The Canyon’s appeal is its dinner-and-concert format: you can make a full evening of a show, with table seating paired with dinner service or general-admission access to the concert floor. The calendar ranges from touring performers and tribute acts to themed nights, often with opening acts before the headliner. Expect a ticketed event, and check the listing for your show’s seating and dining arrangements; some events specify a two-drink minimum. Doors commonly open early enough to arrive before the music, though timings vary by event. The venue is at 28912 Roadside Drive in Agoura Hills, in the Conejo Valley, and current official listings continue to advertise shows there. It’s a practical choice if you want dinner and live music under one roof.
