Other Lives
Teragram Ballroom1234 W 7th St, Los Angeles 90017
Other Lives headline Teragram Ballroom on November 14, with Kelcey Ayer in support. The bill brings the Oklahoma-founded band to the former 1913 theatre on West 7th Street, where the proscenium stage and balcony frame a full evening of live music. Other Lives now perform as a five-piece: founding multi-instrumentalists Jesse Tabish, Jonathon Mooney and Josh Onstott joined by vocalist-songwriter Kim Tabish and producer-percussionist Danny Reisch.
Formed in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Other Lives make cinematic music built with orchestral arrangements and influences ranging from chamber music to post-rock and modern folk. Their recordings are known for dense layering, while their live sets are described by the band as expansive. ATO Records hears “sweeping, widescreen arrangements and haunting, wistful melodies” in Tamer Animals. The group have worked with producer Joey Waronker, who produced their self-titled debut and co-produced Rituals. Pitchfork called their work “meticulously written and arranged” and “organic and lovingly crafted”; The Guardian found Tamer Animals to be “sublime, transportive music” with a “widescreen, filmic quality.”
Teragram Ballroom gives a former 1913 theatre a second life as a live-music hall, with a proscenium stage, balcony and room for up to 625 standing guests. The historic shell and purpose-built concert setup make the building part of the occasion, while its calendar ranges across touring acts and other live events. Most shows are general admission, so expect to stand and choose your view on the floor; the venue also has three bars, including one in the front lounge and another in its café. Check the listing for the night’s doors and format, since some events use mixed seating. It is at 1234 West 7th Street, on the Westlake side of the Downtown Los Angeles area.
