Venice Heritage Museum presents Tuba Skinny at the Townhouse & Del Monte Speakeasy. The New Orleans ensemble brings its eight-piece traditional jazz and American roots band to Venice for a set that moves through spirituals, Depression-era blues, ragtime and traditional jazz. It is a chance to hear a group whose repertoire reaches across early 20th-century styles without treating them as museum pieces.

Formed in New Orleans in 2009 from what began as “a loose collection of street musicians,” Tuba Skinny has spent more than a decade taking the traditional New Orleans sound around the world. The group has released twelve albums and collaborated with Maria Muldaur on Let’s Get Happy Together. Its music also draws on jug-band music, country blues, string-band music and New Orleans R&B, with a reputation for reviving long-lost songs and barnstorming live performances. Reviewers have found the band “loose-limbed and relaxed” even in complex arrangements, praised its “brilliant verve,” and said it “sounds better than ever” on Some Kind-A-Shake.

The Townhouse & Del Monte Speakeasy offers a dynamic night out with live music, DJs, jazz, burlesque, and comedy every evening. The venue features a lively bar setting where guests can enjoy a drink during happy hour or throughout the night, with shows running until 2am. The space invites a mix of listening and socializing, with a layout that encourages mingling and close-up views of the performances. Located in Venice Beach, the venue pulses with the neighborhood's creative energy, making it a spot where the music and the crowd blend into a spirited experience. Whether catching a late-night set or a weekend show, the evening promises a blend of entertainment and vibrant local culture.
