Bizou heads to Gold-Diggers with Landroid and Nightjacket on the bill. Formed in 2017, Bizou is the four-member group of Josiah Mazzaschi, Nicole Fiorentino, Marisa Prietto and Nicki Nevlin. Mazzaschi and Nevlin have played in Light FM, while Fiorentino’s past groups include Smashing Pumpkins, Veruca Salt and Garbage; Prietto has worked with Wax Idols, Glaare and Some Ember.
The Los Angeles band builds songs from driving post-punk bass, sheeny shoegaze guitars, shifting synth textures, darkwave rhythms and dreamy vocals. Bass Magazine calls Bizou a “Los Angeles synth-heavy shoegaze outfit,” describing its work as folding “post-punk urgency into synthwave, industrial, trip-hop, and experimental pop” for “wall-of-sound live sets.” The same publication heard angular, spasmodic moments on the Widow EP resolving into “industrial Enya.” Elsewhere, Scummy Water Tower found “earworms” in the choruses of “Death Mag.”
Gold-Diggers offers a distinctive blend of a bar, music venue, and dance floor, where the room holds about 175 people, creating a space that feels lively yet focused on the music. The interior features disco-ball chandeliers and a touch of seedy glamour that nods to its storied past, setting a scene that’s both raw and celebratory. The sound system is state of the art, designed to deliver showcase-quality performances that range from rock and roll to all-vinyl DJ sets and surprise shows. The crowd is drawn by an ever-changing lineup curated by music enthusiasts, making each night a chance to discover fresh talent or enjoy familiar favorites. Classic cocktails are served at the bar, encouraging mingling and dancing well into the early hours, with the venue open nightly from 7pm to 2am.
