Jimmy Eat World The Format
Hollywood BowlOdin Path, Los Angeles 90068
Jimmy Eat World and The Format share the Hollywood Bowl bill. The Format will perform Dog Problems in full. The Format is the Phoenix, Arizona duo of vocalist Nate Ruess and multi-instrumentalist Sam Means, while no further set details or guest appearances are given for the evening.
The Format describe their sound as “desert pop,” and their work is associated with Interventions and Lullabies as well as Dog Problems. Their indie-pop roots draw on pop-punk, grunge and rock; AntiMusic says the reunited group revived “the alt-rock, grunge, and pop-punk sounds they first bonded over as teenagers.” Before this return, they opened for Yellowcard and Something Corporate, and played dates with Taking Back Sunday and Jimmy Eat World. Their later record Boycott Heaven was called a “superb comeback album” by The Indy Review, while Spectrum Culture described the reunited band live as “shockingly powerful and completely unexpected.”
The Hollywood Bowl is an expansive outdoor amphitheater that offers a unique blend of natural beauty and grand scale, seating up to 17,500 people under the open sky. The venue’s iconic shell-shaped bandstand projects sound across the tiered seating, allowing even those farthest back to catch the nuances of the performance. Arriving early lets you explore picnic areas where many bring their own food, or enjoy offerings from on-site concessions and bars. The audience settles into assigned seats, creating a shared focus on the music, which ranges from classical to contemporary. Evening shows often begin at sunset, with the sky shifting colors as the music unfolds, making the experience as much about the setting as the sound. The Hollywood Bowl remains a vibrant hub for live music in Los Angeles, blending history with a lively communal spirit.
