Carlo Alfonso Quintet
Carlo Alfonso
The Mint6010 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles 90035
Carlo Alfonso brings his Quintet to The Mint for a full-band set led by the Cuban-Mexican saxophonist, composer, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist. The group features Fausto Cuevas on congas, Raul Pineda on drums, Rene Camacho on bass and Bryan Velasco on piano, with LaNesha Latimer appearing as a special guest. It is a chance to hear Alfonso's saxophone at the front of a rhythm section built around congas, drums, bass and piano.
Alfonso is known for an expressive saxophone sound, rhythmic sensitivity and an ability to move naturally across musical worlds. His musical work reaches beyond saxophone to woodwinds, piano, keyboards, electric bass and guitar, alongside arranging. That broad instrumental and production practice frames this Quintet appearance: a band setting for a musician whose creative voice encompasses composition, arrangement and multiple instruments as well as performance.
A stage where Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and Natalie Cole once broke, The Mint is a Mid-City club with a long-standing reputation for live music. The room holds about 300 standing guests with a few seats, offering a close view of the stage. The atmosphere is lively with a full bar, tapas-style food, and a dance floor. Shows run from 7 PM to 2 AM on weekends, with jazz, blues, and soul acts. The experience blends music and conversation, with early arrival recommended for the best seats. It's a place where musicians and fans gather, and the energy is strong.
