Jamila Woods brings 10 Years of HEAVN to Lodge Room, marking a decade of her debut album with a performance centered on the record. Kiah Victoria and Yazmin Monet Watkins are also featured on the bill. HEAVN is Woods’s ode to Blackness, girlhood and home, and its collaborators include Chance the Rapper, Saba and Nico Segal.

Woods is a poet, singer and multidisciplinary artist from Chicago’s South Side whose work regularly crosses the line between poem and song. Her albums include LEGACY! LEGACY!, whose tracks take their names from influential writers, thinkers and visual artists, and 2023’s Water Made Us, a 17-song cycle tracing a relationship through flirtation, conflict, loss and renewal. She has shared stages with Corinne Bailey Rae, Rafael Saadiq, Bonobo, Common, Chance the Rapper and Brittany Howard, and served as artist-in-residence at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. Pitchfork called HEAVN “a singular mix of clear-eyed optimism and Black girl magic,” while cultural critic Doreen St. Felix wrote of Woods’s work: “It makes you wish all singers were poets.”

The Lodge Room offers a distinctive live music experience on the second floor of a building in Highland Park, where the room’s modest size brings the stage close to the audience, creating a direct connection with the performers. The venue features a bar but does not serve full meals, encouraging guests to focus on the music while enjoying drinks. Shows typically start in the evening, with doors opening around 7 pm and performances beginning an hour later, often including multiple sets or late-night shows. Seating is limited and generally first come first served, so arriving early can secure a good spot. The space’s walls and layout emphasize the music, making it a place to listen attentively while still allowing for a relaxed social vibe. This venue remains a lively part of the local music scene, hosting a range of artists and styles.
