THE TOLEDO SHOW
Harvelle's Santa Monica1432 4th Street, Los Angeles
Harvelle’s hosts THE TOLEDO SHOW, Toledo’s Los Angeles jazz-funk cabaret project. The billing does not name a specific lineup for this date, though the show is described as Toledo fronting a band with choreographed dancers known as the Dames. Expect a performance built around his singing, spoken word, dance and choreography, with speak-easy jazz, funky bass lines, horns and his smoky, soulful voice in the mix.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Toledo began in the city’s underground poetry circuit, where he ad-libbed with Angelo Moore of Fishbone, Trulio Disgracious and Macy Gray. He had already worked as a dancer and choreographer for artists including Janet Jackson, Diana Ross, Bonnie Raitt, Al Green, George Michael and Smokey Robinson; his choreography for Us3’s “Cantaloup” earned an MTV Video Award nomination. The Los Angeles Times called him “The coolest Cat working in Hollywood” and praised a show that is “top notch and really must be experienced.” His sound has been described through phrases including “avant jazz,” “funked-up spoken word” and “smokey-storyteller/laid-back Cab Calloway/Tom Waits killer R&B with jazzy rock ’n’ roll dance grooves.”
Harvelle's Santa Monica is a live music venue with a full bar and food menu, offering a relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy a show and a drink.
