The Bellwether333 S Boylston St, Los Angeles 90017
Grateful Shred play The Bellwether in Westlake on December 4. The Los Angeles group works with a changing lineup rather than a fixed personnel list, so this is a band performance rather than a billed solo appearance or one-off named configuration. The room’s main floor and its wraparound balcony offer two ways to take in the set, with the venue’s custom sound system and wooden dance floor part of the space.
Based in Los Angeles, Grateful Shred play Grateful Dead material: releases document versions of “Playing in the Band,” “Shakedown Street,” and “Terrapin Station.” Their recorded lineups have included multiple vocalists and guitarists alongside bass, drums, and keyboards; a 2026 release credits keys, two drummers, guitar, bass, and vocals shared among several players. That release also features Mikaela Davis. A Bandcamp description calls the group’s music “a sonic voyage that truly captures a certain bands extended jams without trying to replicate them,” while another hears a “mellow, happy feel” and says the playing is “very tight.”
The Bellwether’s defining feature is a broad, 270-degree balcony that wraps around its main room, giving concertgoers a choice of floor or elevated viewing with a view toward the stage. The room has a wooden dance floor, a long bar along the back wall and a custom sound system; shows are general admission, with both the main floor and balcony included in a regular ticket. It is a ticketed live-music venue, and the lineup and door times vary by show. Before doors, you can get sourdough pizza, snacks or a drink at The Virginian, the in-house restaurant and lounge, which opens an hour before doors. The venue is just west of downtown Los Angeles, in Westlake, near the 110 freeway.
