Mohini Dey
Blue Note Los Angeles1492 Ivar Avenue, Los Angeles 90028
Mohini Dey brings her own music to Blue Note Los Angeles for an evening led by the Indian-born bassist, vocalist, composer and bandleader. She is billed alone, and no lineup or guest performers have been confirmed for this date. Her live project is built around her compositions, with the bass treated as a melodic, expressive lead voice. Dey’s music draws together rock, jazz, RnB, funk and Indian rhythmic ideas, and her agency describes the result as contemporary jazz fusion with progressive intensity.
Now based in Los Angeles, Dey has worked with artists including Quincy Jones, Steve Vai, Zakir Hussain, Stanley Clarke, A.R. Rahman, WILLOW, Victor Wooten, Mike Stern, Dave Weckl, Chad Smith, Guthrie Govan and Larnell Lewis. Bass Magazine’s E. E. Bradman called her “one of the most exciting bass players of the past few years.” On her 2026 album The Dey Way, The Progressive Subway heard “an exhilarating ride,” while observing that some vocal passages can come close to becoming “autotelic.” Reviewing her 2023 debut, The Progressive Aspect praised “technical musicianship at its finest, hearty and soulful,” though it found that konnakol can sometimes register “like a gimmick.”
A small, dimly lit basement club tucked into a Hollywood corner, Blue Note Los Angeles is a dedicated jazz and live music space with a long-standing reputation for intimate, high-quality performances. The room is modest, with a few rows of seats facing a stage where the music is the focus. It's a place to listen, not to socialize, with the audience often quiet, absorbed in the musicians. Drinks are available, but the atmosphere is centered on the music. Shows are ticketed, with multiple sets each night, and the evening unfolds with a steady rhythm of live music, not casual conversation.
