Lael Neale plays a sold-out Lodge Room show following the November 2026 release of As Killers Do, her first self-released album after three records for Sub Pop. The 10-song record was made with Guy Blakeslee on a Tascam cassette 8-track in an Echo Park bungalow, continuing their stripped-back, home-recorded approach. Its songs move through Paisley Underground echoes, 1960s girl-group touches, proto-punk, outsider folk and surrealist psych-pop.
Raised in rural Virginia and now based between Los Angeles and her family’s Virginia farm, Neale brought a high-lonesome sensibility to California before the Omnichord reshaped her writing in 2019. She and Blakeslee have collaborated since Acquainted With Night in 2021, followed by Star Eaters Delight and Altogether Stranger. Iggy Pop praised her for bringing “fresh abandon” to an emotive singer-songwriter approach, often leaving behind traditional instrumentation and a beat.
The Lodge Room offers a distinctive live music experience on the second floor of a building in Highland Park, where the room’s modest size brings the stage close to the audience, creating a direct connection with the performers. The venue features a bar but does not serve full meals, encouraging guests to focus on the music while enjoying drinks. Shows typically start in the evening, with doors opening around 7 pm and performances beginning an hour later, often including multiple sets or late-night shows. Seating is limited and generally first come first served, so arriving early can secure a good spot. The space’s walls and layout emphasize the music, making it a place to listen attentively while still allowing for a relaxed social vibe. This venue remains a lively part of the local music scene, hosting a range of artists and styles.
