Gabrielito y La Verdad - Latin World • Salsa • Funk • Latin Jazz

Gabrielito y La Verdad bring their Los Angeles Latin funk and salsa ensemble to Vibrato Grill Jazz for an evening built around traditional roots and original grooves. Led by singer-songwriter Gabriel Gonzalez, known as Gabrielito, the group moves through salsa, Latin jazz, boogaloo, soul and funk, with a repertoire that also reaches cha-cha, cumbia and Latin soul. The bill presents their music as high-energy, pairing classic rhythmic forms with contemporary funk, jazz and urban currents.

Founded in Los Angeles by Gonzalez, a Mexican singer-songwriter born and raised in the city, La Verdad is described by the Music Center as a collective of world-class musicians that embodies “the truth of the Los Angeles Latino experience.” Gonzalez is a former member of Quetzal and is associated with Boogaloo Assassins. Published band lineups have included piano, bass, drums, timbales, congas, percussion, trumpet, trombone and backing vocals, though the personnel for this date have not been specified. Reviewing the recording “Traigo Sabor,” Solar Latin Club singled it out for its meeting of classic salsa and Cuban songo and its “organic sound.”
