Bbymutha, Cherele
Lodge Room104 Avenue 56, Los Angeles 90042
Bbymutha heads to Lodge Room for a bill featuring Cherele. The Chattanooga rapper and vocalist brings the catalog she has built since her 2017 viral breakout, “Rules,” while Cherele opens with a Southern rap-informed approach shaped by sharp lyricism, charisma, and adventurous production. It is an all-ages show.
Bbymutha is known for a distinctive strain of Southern rap: sharp, provocative lyrics that are openly sexual, feminist, and positive, delivered in a slow Chattanooga drawl over distorted, progressive beats with roots in experimental and electronic internet music. Her work has earned placements in Pitchfork’s 10 Rappers to Watch and Best Rap Albums, Vibe’s Best Female Rap Albums, and FACT Magazine’s Rappers to Watch. Cherele filters Southern rap through what the venue calls an “art-school dropout imagination,” moving between hard-hitting tracks and introspective storytelling. A two-time Rolling Loud performer and On The Radar top spitter, she has opened for Doja Cat, Doechii, and Lil Wayne, with music placed across HBO, Netflix, BET, MTV, VH1, and the WNBA.
The Lodge Room offers a distinctive live music experience on the second floor of a building in Highland Park, where the room’s modest size brings the stage close to the audience, creating a direct connection with the performers. The venue features a bar but does not serve full meals, encouraging guests to focus on the music while enjoying drinks. Shows typically start in the evening, with doors opening around 7 pm and performances beginning an hour later, often including multiple sets or late-night shows. Seating is limited and generally first come first served, so arriving early can secure a good spot. The space’s walls and layout emphasize the music, making it a place to listen attentively while still allowing for a relaxed social vibe. This venue remains a lively part of the local music scene, hosting a range of artists and styles.
